About Us

Her story:

Hey everyone, my name is Lisa. I was born and raised in Orange County, California. Unlike what many people imagine as “the O.C.” or “Beverly Hills lifestyle,” I grew up in a very modest neighborhood. Both of my parents are immigrants and they worked tirelessly to provide me with the best possible upbringing.

I attended California State University, Long Beach as a Biology major and Chemistry minor. Throughout college, I worked various part time jobs to help provide for my family. Once completing my B.S. degree, I attended San Francisco State University where I fell in love with the city and really was on my own for the first time. San Francisco was the perfect setting to discover my passion of photography, fitness and exploration.

I continued on to pursue my M.A. degree at Midwestern University in Phoenix, Arizona. A part of me was sad to leave San Francisco, but I was ready to move on and continue pursuing my career as a dentist. A year later, I received my M.A. degree and have been in dental school here since!

I have always been set on practicing as a dentist. The ability to help patients build their confidence through a healthy and beautiful smile is the foundation for my aspirations. After years of crocheting as a hobby and side business, the ability to work with my hands and use my dexterity to perform exceedingly detailed dental procedures has been the perfect fit for me.

When I am able to take a break from my busy and stressful school schedule, I am always trying new recipes in my Instant Pot, baking healthy treats to satisfy my husband’s sweet tooth and regularly incorporating different programs in the gym to keep me healthy and clear my mind.

His story:

Hey everyone, my name is Colin and I’m the second half of our duo. I was born and raised on a small suburban city in Oahu, Hawai’i. I was not your typical surfer with a six pack, not a hint of resemblance to Jason Momoa, much to my wife’s dismay. I grew up playing competitive golf and tennis, enjoying friends company and living the simple life.

In high school, I had little focus in my studies, studying just enough and doing the bare minimum. After high school, I attended the University of Hawai’i at Manoa for one year before making the big move to Los Angeles, an entirely new world.

I knew that I wanted to myself in the medical field and found that optometry was the best fit for me. I was fascinated by the complexity of the visual system and the ability to act as the first line of detection for patients who have undiagnosed system conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol. With this in mind, I found a new wind and became dedicated to my studies. In 2012, I was accepted into the Southern California College of Optometry where I was able to do clinical rotations in Orange County, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Japan! After graduating in 2016, I moved to Phoenix, Arizona to begin practicing and building relationships with my patients here in the Valley.

In addition to practicing optometry, I own a small business named HI Story 808. We work with local photographers to incorporate their art on our t-shirt apparel. For each shirt sold, we donate $1 to a charity/non-profit with the goal of keeping our beaches and coasts clean. Come check us out at history808.com!

After a long day of work, I try to stay active through sticking with my workout plans, eating healthy (although cookies are my kryptonite) and grabbing my camera or drone to capture some of our adventures.

Our Story:

We met in 2012 during our last year of undergrad at California State University, Long Beach. Coincidentally, we both took a golf class. We were “stuck” with each other, the last two to get paired up. As irony had it, we both had the same major and minor, but had never seen each other in any of our classes. We ended up taking an entomology “bug” class the next semester where caught the bug, the love bug (please excuse us).

Our relationship was long distance for about 2-3 years as Lisa studied in San Francisco and moved to Phoenix for her Masters. After six years of dating, we tied the knot in the serene  Ko’olau mountains of Hawai’i in 2018. We’ll have some of our pictures up soon!

We both enjoy traveling, photography, fitness, trying new healthy recipes and maintaining a balanced lifestyle. As only children, we both consider ourselves our travel companions, workout partners and certainly each others biggest supporters.

We started our blog to organize various aspects of our busy life and share some of the lessons we learned along the way. I hope you follow our journey for some laughs, pictures of our travels, favorite recipes, workout routines and tips on how to keep a happy, balanced lifestyle (but let’s be honest, Lisa’s the boss and it’s our – wifestyle)!

With Aloha,

Lisa and Colin
